August 18-22, 1943. A short respite-a new registration. Next week, another new registration, of people over sixty, from sixty to sixtynine. A new catastrophe is looming.

My wife is sick. She has been in the hospital for a week.

August 22-24, 1943. Great commotion. They have called for a general census and included members of the first two transports for registration. Who is the informer who implicated these men? Why are they doing this? It isn't fair toward these men who built the ghetto.6

August 24-September 8, 1943. How many days have passed? What has happened? They incarcerated Fredy [Hirsch] and Janowitz7 and put them on a transport. A transport of five thousand people. They sent five thousand in one day.8 Children have arrived from the East.9

They ordered us to put in some men and 150 police.10 The fate of the men: they cast lots to see who would go. They paid the doctors to give them injections, to make themselves sick. And in the end, they also were sent.
